In the late 1800s, growing cities and concentrated horse populations forced a political reaction as piles of horse manure in public spaces reached epic levels.  The Great Horse Manure Crisis of 1894 led to reforms in sanitation policies and ended with a revolution in transportation that ultimately impacted global industry.
